Haiti donations

If you want to make a donation for Haiti earthquake relief, I would like to recommend the International Rescue Committee, a good reputable organization. Click here.

P.S. Pat Robertson says Haitians were punished by God for devil worship. When is God going to do something sensible and punish Pat Robertson?

  1. Steve Says:

The truth is that they did make a pact with the devil.

Now the significance you put on that pact I guess has to do with whether you believe the devil is real or not.

But it is one of Haiti’s founding myths.

According to Haitian national history, the revolutionary war was launched on the eve of a religious ceremony at a place in the north called Bwa Kayiman (Bois Caiman, in French). At that ceremony on August 14, 1791, an African slave named Boukman sacrificed a pig, and both Kongo and Creole spirits descended to possess the bodies of the participants, encouraging them and fortifying them for the upcoming revolutionary war. Despite deep ambivalence on the part of intellectuals, Catholics, and the moneyed classes, Vodou has always been linked with militarism and the war of independence and, through it, the pride of national sovereignty.

So, yeah if there is a devil, Haiti made a pact with it. Might explain why even though Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the same island, the Dominican Republic has been far more successful.

FSR COMMENT: Surely many (if not all) of the hundreds of thousands of Haitians so cruelly afflicted by the earthquake are totally innocent of anything to do with the Devil. To believe God did this intentionally is an insult to God, not to mention an insult to human intelligence.
And there are plenty of earthly historical reasons to account for the different paths of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

  2. John Says:

And how much difference is there between the Dominican Republic and Haiti? Though Haiti is the poorer country, it is not like the Dominican Republic is a Carribean version of South Korea.

  3. Kurt Carson Says:

If you must help Haiti, send condoms.

@Steve – what pact was made on behalf of the citizens of Joplin, Missouri, invoking tornadoes that left 116 people dead? How about the Japanese earthquake/tsunami earlier this year?

It’s amusing how religious bigots derive satisfaction from interpreting misfortunes which befall their religious opponents as God acting on their behalf. Kind of like the response from muslims to the 9/11 attacks.
